TikTok in the age of social media has defied the odds at a time when there is a global pandemic. The company announced via a blog post that exactly 1 billion people are active on the app and are from all corners of the globe.

Whether you like to connect with musicians, educators, influencers, entertainers, or others, TikTok has become the platform of preference. To accompany the official statement, Chief Operating Officer Vanessa Pappas shared her thoughts about this latest accomplishment by the social network.

If you were thinking about what this means by large competitors like Facebook, this has to be causing concern for the once-dominant social platform. Back in June of this year, Facebook reported it had 2.9 billion monthly active users. In other words, this was a 7 percent increased year over year.

Competition continues to heat up between TikTok and American social networks

Facebook is a dominant force because it is not a stand-alone app. It bought Instagram and WhatsApp to become an arsenal in this arena. Nevertheless, Facebook has been notorious for copying features from other social channels and branded it as its own.

At one point, it did look like TikTok could be banned for good by former President Donald Trump. However, this gave the platform some publicity, and it was able to survive somehow.

What did transpire since 2020 is a lot of American social networks launched their TikTok killer apps in an attempt to stave off the popularity of the service.

Facebook with Instagram released Reels, which looks like a carbon copy and uses the exact sounds that arrive first on TikTok. YouTube did not waste any time because it released its short-form service branded as Shorts. In addition, Snapchat unveiled Spotlight, yet it seems none of these has been able to dent the momentum the Chinese-based app has harnessed to date.

Whether you are casually watching, consuming, or creating content on TikTok, there is one simple fact to remember. It is where a sizeable percentage of the population is connecting with other like-minded folks. My question to you is, what are you still waiting for?
